4 Tage afrikanische Tierwelt im Privat-Wildschutzgebiet

Amakhala, named after the Xhosa word for aloes, is situated forty minutes east of Port Elizabeth in the Greater Addo Area. The reserve will leave you in awe of the diverse vegetation and spectacular scenery, which abounds here - sunlit grassy savannah plains, a mosaic of alley bushveld plants, the gently dappled light of the sand forest, many watering holes and the wide spellbinding Bushman’s River. This is home to great African mammals, birds and insects. It will humble and fascinate you. Amakhala Game Reserve is a successful conservation project, which has seen the reintroduction of elephant, white rhino, giraffe, cheetah, zebra, wildebeest and many antelope species. Your professional guide / ranger will give you a holistic interpretation of the ecology of the land and the history of the people.

Activities at Amakhala include:

  • A range of morning and evening safaris, game drives in an open Land Rover, in search of wildlife – rhino, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, tortoise, over 16 antelope species, etc.
  • Night drives with “sundowners”, before searching for elusive nocturnal animals, such as lynx, porcupine and spring hare
  • A slow river cruise down the Bushman’s River. The riverine bushveld offers excellent bird watching with a good chance of seeing the majestic African Fish Eagle and all three species of Kingfisher. Amongst the game drinking at the river’s edge, the rare Cape Clawless Otter might also be sighted.
  • A guided game & nature walk with one of their qualified rangers, that will both fascinate and delight you with an in-depth view into the hidden treasures of the African veld.
  • Canoeing on the Bushman’s River
  • Visit the famed neighbouring Shamwari Game Reserve, for the opportunity of finding wild lion

THE SAFARI LODGE
The Safari Lodge is tucked away in a valley of indigenous bush on the northern boundary of the reserve. Nestled between the Shamwari Game Reserve and Addo Elephant National Park, its location is ideal for excellent game viewing.

 Safari Lodge bedroom

The intimate thatched lodge with its unique safaris huts offers all the comforts of a graded four star lodge, and is an undisturbed retreat, where you can regenerate your soul and tune into the sounds of nature. Canvas drop-blinds open up the safari huts and the central lounge, to view the waterhole, where monkeys come to play and antelope and zebra quench their thirst. Soak in a luxurious double bath or splash off the dust in an outdoor shower, or private splash pool, before sharing your day's adventures around the fireside under a canopy of stars.
In the evening the haunting sound of the Kudu horn will summon you to the fireside, to enjoy award wining South African wines and local cuisine. The resident chef prepares unpretentious food with enthusiasm and flair. Four-course dinners start with delicious soups and homemade bread, followed by traditional dishes such as venison and ostrich, often cooked safari style over the coals.
